Tiger Jr. High Volleyball

****Teamwork is an essential part of the team to be successful.  Learn to play together as a team and respect those around you.

We are excited to have your daughter as a part of our team this year.  Success doesn’t come easy and your daughter is going to have to be willing to work hard and commit herself to the team.  We expect that she will come ready to work hard everyday, and have a positive attitude, even at 6:15 in the morning!

Each athlete is expected to behave in a reasonable manner while representing Tekamah-Herman and the volleyball program.  Remember that if what you are doing is detrimental to yourself then it is also hurting the team and school.

Code of Ethics for Athletes

*Smoking, drinking, drugs, and any inappropriate behavior, will not be tolerated.  Consequences are outlined in the student handbook.

*All players will act appropriately while on the bench.

*GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS A MUST AND ALWAYS HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

LOCATION/TIMES OF PRACTICES AND GAMES

Practices will be held at 6:15 am beginning Wednesday, September4th.  We will practice Monday-Friday. We will be done at 7:40 in order for the girls to get ready for school!

WHAT YOUR DAUGHTER NEEDS BEFORE THEY CAN PRACTICE

Your daughter must have a completed physical and parent permission slip before they can practice. Please check with me today to see what your daughter needs by Wednesday.

ATTENDANCE:  (Practice and Games)

Everyone is expected to be on time and present to all practices and games.  If a player is sick, then call me and let me know.  If absences become a problem, playing time will be lost.  Three unexcused absences and your daughter will be excused from the team.  If your daughter is riding home with you after an away game you must inform the coaches and sign them out before you leave.  A parent must be present to sign their child out. Your daughter is expected to stay for ALL games.  They may not leave after their game is over.  We are a team and support each other.

*It is NOT your parents’ responsibility to wake you up, pack your gym bag, etc.  Set your alarm and pack your bag the night before.  Be prepared!

Expectations at practice:

·      Maintain a positive attitude!  Even when you are tired; even when the drill is not fun or is difficult; even when quitting feels like an easier decision.

·      Exhibit a strong work ethic.  Give 100% every minute you are at practice.  Hustle during every drill.  Run to the drinking fountain, to the next station, etc…walking is not part of volleyball!

·       Be a team player!  We will give high fives, fist pumps, pats on the back to ALL players on this team.  Everyone has something to contribute, and we will acknowledge one another.

·      Show enthusiasm!  Cheer for your teammates during practice.  The gym should not be quiet.

·      Be an effective communicator.  Get used to talking to each other on offense and defense.   Also, communicate with me.  If you need to miss practice for any reason, call me or talk to me at school.  (You can call me as early as 5:30 A.M. and as late as 9:30 P.M.)

·      Show pride!   You will not be the best at everything you are asked to do at practice.  (Nor should you be!)  Showing pride means you work your hardest, even when the task is challenging.  Take pride in yourself, in your team, and in representing your school.

·      Be coachable.  When Coach Toft  or I give you feedback, it will be done with the intent of helping you grow as a volleyball player.  Be willing to make changes to your game to become a stronger athlete and member of your team. Be Respectful!

 HERMAN BUS:

Will be leaving the Herman school by 6:00.  Please be there by then if you wish to ride it.

 TOURNAMENTS:

We have two tournaments. When we participate in a tournament we are there to win.  Everybody will get to play, but it will not be equal playing time in a tournament.   Tournament teams will be announced a few days before the tournament.

 Setting TEAMS:

Players are evaluated by volleyball skills, attendance, attitude, and play during practice.

Selecting A B C team we will consider:

Serving ability-consistency of overhand serves

Passing-consistency in passing the ball to the target

Position-Players who skills fit a specific need for the team’s overall balance

Athletic ability and potential: ability to learn and perform complex skills

Attitude, being coachable and approach to the game: Positive, competitive and eager to learn

Teams are not set in stone. Anyone can be moved to a different team at any time.
